The Ruhrtriennale has been an international festival for music theatre, drama, dance, performance, music and visual arts in the Ruhr region since 2002. It takes place annually in August and September under a director who changes every three years. RT 2018 2019 2020 was realised under the direction of Stefanie Carp.
During this period Manuel Raeder and Santiago da Silva were responsible for the graphic design and art direction of the festival including all printed and digital media over three years (RT 2020 was cancelled due to Covid). The visual identity was based on free association as a response to the festival’s somewhat politically motivated program. Non-sensical “abstract shapes” and impactful colour combinations populated the Ruhrgebiet during the Festival’s period. For each year, an anual program publication was produced. This book documented the festival’s program in detail and served as a platform for the festivals ethos, which progressed during the course of three(ish) years.
